coe-staff: Support First Place Kids

Come enjoy a fun evening of food, drink and entertaining while supporting a wonderful program for young children in our community who are experiencing homelessness.

These kids need our help.  Please join First Place Kids at the first annual Paella Feast and Auction on Friday, June 24th, 2016 at 6pm. 
Tickets are only $50 and the profits will help support the program to run 5 days per week.

The College of Education is fortunate to be connected to First Place Kids Early Childhood Program  - they provide internship opportunities for Family and Human Service students throughout the school year.  In addition, the College of Education's Early Intervention Program operates an enriched preschool program "BOOST" in the summer for First Place Kids who are at-risk and/or have a disability. The Master's students take full responsibility for planning and operating this program as part of their final practicum experience.

Kids come to First Place Family Center under considerable stress after experiencing the aftermath of one or more traumatic events. First Place Family Center promotes play in its upbeat, family friendly facility at 1995 Amazon Pkwy in Eugene. Colorful, age appropriate toys are within reach indoors, and the fenced playground beckons outside.  In addition, a program entitled First Place Kids Early Childhood Program serves children and families experiencing homelessness in three distinct ways:

* Operating a trauma informed preschool program 3 times per week;
* Providing developmental and social/emotional screenings and referrals;
* Linking families to essential community resources such as Head Start, health care, and family counseling.
