WHAT IS #GIVINGTUESDAY?

We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. Today, Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

It's a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Join us and be a part of a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity.

The Oregon Employees Charitable Fund Drive is an easy way for you to give back. Through the Charitable Fund Drive, a gift of any size has a lasting, positive impact on the community.

A gift of $5 per month can do things like:
* Provide two teens with one month of mentoring and activities in an alcohol- and drug-free environment.
* enroll a person with dementia in Medic Alert(r) + Safe Return(r) that responds to medical emergencies and wandering.
* purchase 15 meals per month, 180 meals per year
* buy a sturdy front door for a new home for a family in need.
You'd be surprised what wonderful things your gift can do, and how far your donation can go.

As of today, only 4 COE employees have contributed to the charitable fund drive. Even a small one-time gift can make a difference. Some coordinators have asked if there will be a luncheon for the departments with 100% participation again this year - YES there will be. Please let folks in your department know that by achieving 100% participation-regardless of the size of donations-everyone in your department will be invited to a campus luncheon. Also, please remember that we are shooting for a December 31st finish to the Drive.

Just visit http://www.oregon.gov/GCFS/pages/index.aspx and follow the instructions to make a donation. To choose a local charity, choose UNITED WAY OF LANE COUNTY AND PARTNER AGENCIES to get the dropdown menu for options such as the Relief Nursery, Looking Glass, NEDCO or Womenspace, among many other groups.

If you need help walking through the process or have any questions, just let me know.

Thanks,
Lisa
