The Special Education and Clinical Sciences (SPECS) Department is pleased to announce the following colloquium presentation by a candidate for the open rank, tenure-related position in the School Psychology program.  Light refreshments provided.

Decoding Errors within Oral Passage Reading and Word Lists

Dr. Michelle Hosp, Director of the Iowa Reading Research Center

Dr. Michelle Hosp is the Director of the Iowa Reading Research Center and has previously served as a Consultant to the Iowa Department of Education in progress monitoring/data based decision making. Dr. Hosp received her Ph.D. in 2002 from Vanderbilt University in Special Education and a M.S. in School Psychology from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1995. She has held a number of positions in the field, including practicing as a school psychologist in Clark County, Nevada, and serving as a tenure line faculty member in Special Education (from 2002-2007) at the University of Utah. Dr. Michelle Hosp’s program of research involves using academic assessment to inform instructional interventions. Her scholarly record includes 16 peer reviewed articles, 2 books, and 4 book chapters and over $2 million of extramural funding. Dr. Hosp’s publications have appeared in journals such as Assessment for Effective Intervention, Reading Psychology, Learning Disabilities Research and Practice, and School Psychology Review. Her books, The ABCs of curriculum based evaluation: A practical guide for effective decision-making, and The ABCs of CBM: An easy guide to curriculum based measurement are both published by Guilford and are mainstays for researchers and practitioners alike.
