Dear Colleagues:
The following is information about and request for potential evaluation projects for the college-wide doctoral seminar, EDUC 620 and 6210 (Program Evaluation I & II) sequence.
Description of Course: The Program Evaluation sequence will be offered this coming winter and spring terms. Please pass this information along to any of your doctoral students who may be interested in this sequence.
* The winter term covers: (a) an introduction to evaluation, (b) issues in evaluation, (c) approaches to evaluation, (d) practical guidelines for planning evaluations, and (e) practical guidelines for conducting and using evaluations. The final product for the term is the completion of an evaluation plan negotiated with a client. Please see below if you or someone you know has an existing evaluation need.
* The spring term involves completing the planned evaluation including the writing and presenting a final evaluation report. Students who take only the winter term negotiate that they will plan an evaluation for their client but not carry it out.
Students are better prepared for this course if they have successfully completed the prerequisite research methods course (i.e., EDUC 640 or comparable course).
Request for Evaluation Projects: This e-mail is also a request to identify evaluation projects appropriate for student completion (e.g., part of existing research projects, academic programs, or with community agencies you are affiliated). Evaluation projects should be of the scope that makes it possible for the planning to occur during winter term and the evaluation implemented and completed in the spring term. Examples of previous projects include evaluations of the On-line Academic Program for the COE Dean's Office, Fairfield After School Program for COE Service-Learning Program, and ShelterCare Program.
Please e-mail me directly a short description (title of project, organization, general scope of evaluation desired, contact information) of any potential projects prior to the start of winter term. I will present the evaluation opportunities early in the term for students to choose from (generally as part of a Team) and allow them to begin working with the client in the design of the evaluation. This activity is a valuable resource for students to provide them with evaluation experience with "real data" and also working directly with clients under guided supervision.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information.
Sincerely,
CHiXapkaid
