coe-staff: COE Welcome Day September 26th, 2014

Hello,
Our COE Orientation this year is changing to COE Welcome Day and it will take place on Friday, September 26th, 2014.  Once again, we'll have the Dean's Welcome Lunch, from noon - 1:15 pm in Kendall Plaza, so mark your calendars for this chance to mingle with your colleagues and students and maybe win a prize!

For those that have been workshop instructors in the past, we will not be offering any workshops except for the class on Oregon's Mandatory Reporting Law, so you're off the hook this year.  Instead of hosting the students for workshops, we're trying a different way to orient them to our programs by using a scavenger hunt.

The COE Scavenger Hunt will feature any programs or departments who wish to participate.  The idea is to get our current and future students to visit a wide array of areas within the HEDCO complex or be given information about a program within the COE.  For example, Student Academic Services, the Department of Education Studies, the Service Learning Program or the Learning Commons might all be places we want students to learn about.

If you wish to participate in the Scavenger Hunt, let me know.  When we begin to design the card, I'll contact you to get a one or two sentence description of the area or program you wish to showcase.  All you need to provide is a place within your area where we can have a small table (or space on a counter) to set the actual stamp students use to stamp their card.  You can have a station where a person is available to answer questions or merely put out a flyer for information students can take away with them.

The Stamp Cards will be available online (for people to print out) or upon request, you can have some to hand out during your student orientations.  The stamping stations will be set up starting Monday, September 22nd 2014, so students have all week to get their cards stamped.

Students will submit a completed card to a box in the HEDCO lobby.  A drawing for a prize (yet to be determined) will take place sometime on Friday, September 26th.
