coe-staff: Senate Meeting 5/28

Hi all - Here are my notes from last Wednesday's senate meeting.  As usual, I missed the first 20 minutes or so of the meeting, including President Gottfredson's remarks.  Here is the link to his web page: http://president.uoregon.edu/content/remarks-university-senate-may-28-2014 .  The very good news is that he signed the Academic Freedom legislation.  This has gotten national attention because it extends academic freedom and free speech rights beyond the faculty to the entire UO community.  The includes the right to criticize institutional policies and practices, which was something United Academics was unsuccessful in getting in the CBA article on Academic Freedom.

The Senate meeting mostly concerned the Senate legislation to establish a Task Force to address sexual violence and survivor support and legislation to change the student conduct code. These were long discussions that resulted in the postponement of many agenda items.
