Dear Colleagues,
I write to encourage you to nominate a member of our COE community for the Annual MLK Jr. Award. This is an important honor bestowed upon UO faculty and staff who have worked to make the university a more inclusive, equitable, and diverse place. Many previous recipients are from the college and this is an excellent year to add to that number!
Please also let your students know about the Essay Contest sponsored by the Office of Equity & Inclusion. Gift certificates will be given to the top 3 winners (3 for undergraduates, 3 for graduate students).
Details are below....

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Annual Awards and Student Essay Contest
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was considered a vital figure of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement and modern era of humanity. He once said, "An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity."
MLK , Jr. Awards for Faculty and Staff
Every year, UO faculty and staff whose activities embody Dr. King's values, including interest in public service, have an opportunity to be honored with the annual MLK Awards<http://oei.uoregon.edu/content/dr-martin-luther-king-jr-awards>.
Please nominate your staff and faculty colleagues who exemplify the spirit of Dr. King by 5 pm on Dec. 6, 2013. The guidelines<http://oei.uoregon.edu/content/dr-martin-luther-king-jr-awards> and nomination form<http://oei.uoregon.edu/node/162> are available online.

Written and video essays should reflect students' personal experiences and respond to the question, "How can we move forward in unity as Dr. King eloquently called for in his famous 'I Have a Dream' speech?"
