Dear Colleagues,

Please join us again this coming Thursday (10/17) 2-3 pm for our 2013-14 Prevention Science Speaker Series.

Dr. Carol Metzler, Senior Scientist and Science Director at the Oregon Research will present her work in a talk entitled, "A Public Health Approach to Improving Parenting: Research Methods, Challenges, and Outcomes."

Date: 10/17/2013

Location: HEDCO 230T

Time: 2:00-3:00 PM

Dr. Metzler conducts NIH and DOE-funded research on the social environment factors that influence the development of problem behavior in children and adolescents, and evaluates the efficacy of family- and school-level interventions for reducing or preventing those problems. She is particularly interested in research on parenting practices, promoting a public health framework for improving parenting practices, and in evaluating the effects of delivering parenting information through non-clinical media-based approaches. She is currently involved in projects to develop and evaluate media-based approaches to providing parents of young children with parenting education and support, through television and the internet. In addition, Dr. Metzler is also engaged in efforts to summarize what is known about evidence-based programs for children and families and to investigate how these programs can be effectively moved into practice through better integration of science, practice, and policy.
