TO:                All Campus Building Users

SUBJECT:     Campus Wide Electrical Testing & Interruption

Good Morning:

Campus Operations and a contractor will be testing building electrical feeders. An electrical feeder has cables providing power through the tunnel system from the Central Power Station to campus buildings. Each feeder serves multiple buildings.

The testing is to confirm all feeder equipment is now functioning properly after the damage that was caused during the January outage.



We recommend all sensitive electronics; including computers and printers are turned off prior to this testing if not on a UPS backup system. This is also a good opportunity to verify your UPS systems are properly working prior to this testing.



During the testing listed below, buildings will experience a brief outage of up 2 minutes. It is anticipated only one outage per building will be required.



*       On Tuesday, September 10th from 11:00pm to 6:00am September 11th, buildings will experience an intermittent outage, lasting up to 2 minutes, while testing is being performed on that building. Standby power will also be tested and will also experience a 2 minute outage.  Standby and main building power will not be tested within the same 2 minute interval.

*       On Wednesday, September 11th from 11:00pm to 6:00 am September 12th, buildings will experience an intermittent outage, lasting up to 2 minutes, while testing is being performed on that building. Standby power will also be tested and will also experience a 2 minute outage.  Standby and main building power will not be tested within the same 2 minute interval.

During both evenings work not associated with the electrical feeders will be performed. As in the past, we do not anticipate any campus disruption, but feel it prudent to inform campus any time there is a remote chance that our work may cause a momentary disruption.  If there were to be any disruptions, it would be a momentary outage while the system re-sets and backup power comes on line.



Elevators will be shut down and signs posted; egress lighting will experience the same outage but will re-energize once power is restored. Once testing is completed, Campus Operations personnel will be sure HVAC systems, elevators and other equipment are reset.
