The National Evaluation System of Profession Capacity Building Program for
School Directors and Teachers in Thailand, 2010-2012:
An Innovative Tool for Large-Scale, Multilevel-Multisite Evaluation

Friday, May 31 from 10:00-11:15 a.m. in HEDCO 220

Sirichai Kanjanawasee, Ph.D. is Professor and former Dean of the Faculty of
Education at the Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. In this presentation,
Dr. Kanjanawasee will present a nation-wide evaluation system that was
implemented to evaluate a large-scale national program to train school
administrators and teachers, called Professional Capacity Building (PCB)
program with approximately 180,000 participating administrators and
teachers. A framework to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the
program was developed by combing three methodological building blocks;
theory-based, multi-level, and multi-site evaluation. Status and growth
models were applied to measure achievements of participants, groups, and
programs. A multilevel approach was used to aggregate results at local,
provincial, regional, and national level. It evaluated the effect of the
PCB program across different implementation conditions and achievement
levels of students.

Smarter Balanced Assessment in Oregon Public Schools

Friday, May 31 from 11:30-1:00 a.m. in HEDCO 220

In 2014-2015, Oregon schools will have transitioned from OAKS to Smarter
Balanced Assessments to assess students' proficiency with the math and
English Common Core State Standards. The Smarter Balanced Assessment
Consortium states, “The system—which includes both summative assessments
for accountability purposes and optional interim assessments for
instructional use—will use computer adaptive testing technologies to the
greatest extent possible to provide meaningful feedback and actionable data
that teachers and other educators can use to help students succeed.” Tony
Alpert, Steve Slater, and Lisa Reynolds will speak to what the change to
Smarter Balanced Assessments will mean for Oregon K-12 and higher education
schools, teachers, and students. Presentation topics may include an
overview of Smarter Balanced Consortium and assessments, a comparison to
OAKS, the roll out process and timeline, and expected changes and benefits
to stakeholders. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask
questions following the presentation.
