Colleagues,

The 2014 U.S. News and World Report's annual rankings were released in March, and since you may not have seen them, I am sharing them with you here. Some of you may reference these rankings and accompanying data in your materials, letters, conversations and/or website copy, so if you do, be sure to update it based on this latest information.

Various levels of importance and relevance are ascribed to these kinds of rankings and their methodology, depending on the institution, but there is no question that rankings can come to bear on the college decision. To our "customers," they remain a strong indicator of prestige, competitiveness, academic rigor and value. We all own a piece of our excellence in this regard, and we should all be proud of how we stack up amongst our peers.

If you have any questions about our rankings, please let me know.

The text of the March 18 announcement follows – otherwise, you may read it at https://education.uoregon.edu/news/2014-us-news-rankings.

Regards,
Cody

The College of Education's legacy of excellence in U.S. News and World Report's annual rankings of America's Best Graduate Schools<http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools> remains largely unblemished, according to its newly released 2014 data. The COE's graduate program remained at No. 8 in the 2014 publication - a tie with UCLA, which dropped from its No. 6 ranking. With only one public institution ranked ahead of it (University of Texas – Austin at No. 4), the UO tied for the No. 2 public graduate program for 2014. Owing to a relatively small decrease in total funded research (down $0.3 million; from $35.1 million in 2013 to $34.8 million in 2014), the College moved from No. 5 in total funded research for 2013 to No. 9 for 2014. However, in spite of the associated reduction in funded research per faculty member (down $131,100; from $1,096,900 in 2013 to $965,800 in 2014), the COE remained the top school, public or private, in this area for the sixth year in a row.

The Special Education program again ranked No. 3 among all schools and No. 2 among public institutions. This is the 14th year that Special Education has ranked No. 3 in the country.

More details on the rankings, including how other colleges within the UO fared, is available here<http://around.uoregon.edu/story/academics/2014-edition-us-news-world-report-graduate-school-rankings-include-top-uo-programs>.
