All -

I believe you were informed that on January 13 I had a heart attack. I was fortunate that Cathy insisted I go to the hospital in Corvallis immediately where I received excellent care. The results of the first angiogram that was conducted indicated that I had significant blockage in a major artery on the left side of the heart and that I needed bypass surgery. Subsequent testing, including a second and specialized angiogram, resulted in a different profile and the decision was made not to conduct surgery at this time. My condition is managed currently through medications, diet, and exercise - measures I likely will continue the rest of my life.

To this point, I have come into the office sporadically, working mainly from home and relying on the college's excellent administrative staff to take on my duties. I am grateful especially to Ron Beghetto, Shaun Haskins, Elaine Jones, and Ed Kame'enui for their contributions in my absence.

I will return to the office on a regular basis on February 18. Please know that I will be able to work without restriction and assume the full responsibilities of the dean immediately. I look forward to getting back to work.

Thank you for the many messages, cards, and calls I received - I greatly appreciated your collective support.

Mike
