coe-staff: New College of Education Website

For close to a decade, the software and systems operating our COE website (http://education.uoregon.edu) have not changed. This afternoon (Friday, September 21) we will be switching to a new set of technologies as part of renovating the COE's website. The site's address will remain the same (http://education.uoregon.edu), but it will have a host of new features and a completely new look. One of its key features is a powerful search mechanism that returns better results from your search terms; it also helps to refine results quickly and easily.

As you all know, a website is always a state of flux. Our new site's dynamism and flexibility will better reflect the vibrant life and mission of our college. Post-launch, there will be no shortage of work as well as a few growing pains: new environments create new opportunities, demands, and challenges.

Our new site uses "human readable" addresses, so no more URLs with question marks, equal signs, ampersands or the terms such as "path," "subpath" or "setsubpath". So instead of URLs like "education.uoregon.edu/path.htm?setpath=20&setsubpath=1", we will see URLs like "education.uoregon.edu/about-college/our-mission".

Because of this change in URLs, please be aware that if you have web shortcuts or bookmarks that link to specific pages on the old website, those links will not work any more, but will be forwarded to a search pages that can help find the content you are looking for.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to all the staff, students, and faculty who made the new website possible.

One last thing, please take a look at the new education website on a smartphone or tablet when you have a chance.
