College of Education is First Campus Group to Celebrate Eugene's 150th
Birthday
To get the University of Oregon more involved with What's Your 150?,
the City of Eugene created the Campus 150 Challenge. The challenge is
to get students and faculty at the university to participate in
celebrating Eugene's 150th birthday by either setting up their own 150
goal or contributing to a campus organization's 150 goal. Whether it's
through a student group or an individual, the possibilities are
endless for creating a 150 goal.
The College of Education is the first group on campus to participate
in the challenge with a goal of collecting 150 backpacks for kids
attending Fairfield Elementary in Eugene. "We are thrilled to
participate in Eugene's 150th birthday celebration," Director of the
Service-Learning Program Deanna Belcher said. "It is a fun way to
honor the ongoing relationship between the University and its hometown
and to encourage students, faculty and staff to pull together in a
small way behind our common mission of caring for and educating all our children."
Backpacks can be dropped off in the HEDCO lobby Monday through Friday
between 8 and 6 p.m. until school begins in mid-September. Photo
opportunities will be available to all media.
Eugene, Oregon, was first incorporated as the town of Eugene City on
October 17, 1862. City staff and community members are working
together on a number of events and activities to celebrate Eugene's
150th birthday, and they want students of the University of Oregon to
get involved and be a part of the celebration.
What's Your 150?
To celebrate the awesome place and amazing people of Eugene, the City
has come up with an activity that anyone can get involved in leading
to October 17. What's Your 150? is an opportunity for community
members to get creative and do 150 things for Eugene's 150th birthday.
People can post their ideas on the Eugene at 150 Facebook page to inspire
others to do their own 150 - facebook.com/Eugene at 150<mailto:facebook.com/Eugene at 150<mailto:facebook.com/Eugene at 150%3cmailto:facebook.com/Eugene at 150>> .
There are lots of opportunities to participate, share ideas and join
the
fun:
