Subject: May 17th-University Day
COE Community Members,
Mark your calendars! University Day, the annual event that gets you outside and working in the fresh air, is scheduled for Thursday, May 17th, 8:30-4:00!
"University Day" is a campus-wide beautification event that takes place each spring. Hundreds of students, staff and faculty gather together to plant flowers,
spread bark mulch, dig weeds, and generally show that we care about our campus. The tradition dates back to 1905 to prepare the university grounds for
commencement ceremonies. Though University Day has evolved since then, it's a great way to have fun and work with other people from your department.
Some tools will be supplied. If you have a favorite gardening tool, please feel free to bring your own.
Please plan to join your coworkers and the UO landscaping crew to help beautify the COE grounds.
All of our immediate areas;
HEDCO Education Building
Lorry I. Lokey Education Building
Education Annex
Clinical Services Building
need your attention. If you're available to work, please email your building coordinator (Annette Tognazzini for CSB, Terry Kneen for HEDCO, and Joyce Nims for Lokey and Education Annex).
As always, participants who work for at least one hour will receive a commemorative t-shirt from the UO and lunch from the College of Education. When
you register for a shift, please include your t-shirt size, and choose your lunch preference (meat/vegetarian/vegan/other).
This year's lunch will be sub sandwiches, chips, water and soda. Time/place: 11:30am to 1:30pm in HEDCO Courtyard (if sunny) or Lokey Education 102G and 102K (if raining).
Garden tools, wheelbarrows, work gloves, flowers, and bark mulch will be delivered to the buildings first thing in the morning. Workers will
be able to choose from planting flowers, weeding, picking up trash, and hauling and spreading bark out along the flowerbeds.
See you on the 17th!
Russ
