<span style="font-family: Aptos, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; color: rgb(36, 36, 36);" class="elementToProof">I write to seek nominations for the next Associate Dean(s) for Research and Faculty Development. Some of you may recall that, historically, these two
roles were a single position as described in our Internal Governance policy. In recent years, however, the position has been split into two separate positions. This year, we are reintroducing the option for the combined role if interest, expertise, and capacity
align. Drs. Lisa Mazzei (Associate Dean for Faculty Development) and John Seeley (Associate Dean for Research) will be coming to the end of their current terms this spring. We would like to begin the nomination process to name the new leader(s) in time to
allow for some light shadowing before the summer break.</span></p>

<span style="font-family: Aptos, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; color: rgb(36, 36, 36);" class="elementToProof">The appointment is anticipated to be a 3-year term. The FTE for the consolidated role is 0.50 FTE during the academic year and 0.50 FTE during the
summer. The academic year FTE is generally taken as 4 course releases<b>. </b>In addition, an annual stipend of $6,000 is provided. If the position is once again split into two roles, then the FTE, course releases, and stipend will be adjusted accordingly.
Please note that faculty with teaching responsibilities who assume this role are required to teach a minimum of one course per year per our COE workload policy.</span></p>

<span style="font-family: Aptos, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; color: rgb(36, 36, 36);" class="elementToProof"><i>The Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development (ADRFD) is responsible for overseeing, guiding, and promoting the COE research efforts,
and is responsible for integration of the academic and research enterprises of the COE. Additionally, the ADRFD coordinates all faculty promotion and tenure processes, and offers professional development activities that foster faculty success.</i></span></p>

<span style="font-family: Aptos, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; color: rgb(36, 36, 36);" class="elementToProof"><i>The Associate Deans shall be selected by the Dean from COE career faculty members at the rank of Associate Professor or higher. In the case of the
Associate Dean for Service and Outreach, and the Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development, a nominee at the rank of either Senior Research Associate I or Associate Research Professor or higher may be appointed. The Dean shall solicit and consider
nominations from representative faculty. Preference for both of these positions shall be given to candidates with the rank of full Professor, Senior Research Associate II of Full Research Professor and relevant University level experience. The Dean shall consult
with constituent faculty (i.e., department heads, unit directors, Program Directors) in the final decision making process.</i></span></p>

of updated promotion policies, and the university’s adoption of the new faculty development platform, Elements. And I am grateful to John Seeley, PhD, Castle-McIntosh-Knight Professor, for his research leadership through 3 dean transitions, a pandemic, and
a volatile federal landscape. In this role, John was able to continue to ensure that our research record of success remained intact even while daily changes to federal funding sources were under threat. Thank you to both Lisa and John for their service, dedication,
and thoughtful leadership.</span></p>
