Career Faculty Title and Category Updates

As part of the implementation of the current United Academics Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the College of Education is making administrative updates to the titles and categories of career faculty to ensure alignment with the CBA’s terminology and structure.

Teaching Professor Category Transition

All UO career faculty previously in the Instructor and Lecturer category have been recategorized into the Teaching Professor category at their equivalent rank. This change aligns with Appendix 1<https://hr.uoregon.edu/ua-bargaining-agreement#implementation-agreements>, agreement 2 of the current United Academics CBA.



Title Alignment for Research Professor and Clinical Faculty

To further align with  Article 15<https://hr.uoregon.edu/ua-bargaining-agreement#academic-classification-and-rank>, Section 3 of the CBA, the College is updating the titles of faculty in the Research Professor and Clinical Professor categories. Historically, the college listed the faculty category first (e.g., "Clinical Associate Professor"), while the CBA uses rank first (e.g., "Associate Clinical Professor"). We are updating titles to reflect the CBA language when the faculty member's title is based solely on their category and rank.



Note: No changes will be made to faculty titles if their current title does not directly reflect their category and rank.

Going forward, please use the above format—rank first, category second—when referencing faculty titles.

•         The College of Education directory<https://education.uoregon.edu/directory/faculty> has been updated to reflect these title changes.

•         Faculty affected by the updates will receive an individual email outlining their new title.

•         The titles in faculty’s position descriptions will be updated during Fall Term.

•         This is an administrative title change only. It does not affect promotion timelines, performance review schedules, or position responsibilities.
