Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope all of you managed to carve out some time to rest and visit with family and friends as much as possible during the break. I know we all needed some time off to breathe! I am writing with a few announcements to offer support for providing consistent and high-quality instructional experiences for our students in what is unfolding to be another complicated year ahead.
1. The emails sent out by the Patrick Phillips and Janet Woodruff-Borden yesterday afternoon indicate that we need to remain flexible in our course delivery to accommodate student and faculty needs related to the surge in COVID exposure and infections. Although they continue to emphasize the need to deliver courses in person, there is a new 20% threshold indicating that if 20% or more of your students need to be absent for COVID related circumstances then the course can move to distance delivery. I think we also need to be mindful of the quality of the learning experience and the specific student populations we serve in our various programs. In order to process requests for technical support for HyFLex or other forms of remote delivery I have developed a qualtrics survey that should be completed PRIOR to moving a course to HyFLex or synchronous distance delivery. We will be documenting course delivery shifts across the college in order to provide adequate technical support for distance delivery. Adam Pritt is a phenomenal resource to the college, but as you can imagine has limited capacity to support the volume of requests that are currently being submitted. As a result we will be vetting requests as they come to investigate ways we can pool our resources more efficiently. Please refrain from reaching out directly to Adam. We will be processing these requests centrally. Here is the link to the qualtrics form: https://oregon.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_40W6LTCOX8oG3BA
1. Adam has developed a suite of resources that you can access on-line to support the distance delivery of courses, the recording of lectures, and other aspects of course engagement that can enhance the student learning experience. Janet Woodruff-Borden clearly indicated that we are expected to record our lectures and post them on Canvas to provide access to students who cannot attend class. The following is a selected list of the most relevant resources and where they are located.

1. I have scheduled two open Q & A sessions with Adam Pritt on Wednesday 1/12/22 2pm to 3pm and Thursday 1/13/22 3pm to 4pm. If you need assistance with shifting your course for on-line delivery please use these group sessions to receive consultation from our resident expert. The sessions will be recorded and posted.

1. Finally, significant modality changes to courses that are not temporary must still be submitted through the curriculum committee. The College of Education Curriculum Committee will be meeting on February 22nd. Please send your curriculum proposals to Mariah DeGuzman (mariahrd at uoregon.edu<mailto:mariahrd at uoregon.edu>) and myself (lduran at uoregon.edu<mailto:lduran at uoregon.edu>) by February 8th.
I appreciate all you do for the College of Education and our students. During this challenging time I have been incredibly impressed by our ability to be innovative, flexible, and student-centered. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or if you need any other support.
We need more light about each other. Light creates understanding, understanding creates love, love creates patience, and patience creates unity.—Malcolm X
