Subject: Winter Writing Circle Times (in-person circles!) and signup

Dear Colleagues,

You are warmly invited to sign up for faculty writing circles run by the Center on Diversity and Community (CoDaC). All faculty are welcome, and you may use the circles to work on any writing or research important to you. Writing circles use a weekly commitment of protected time to help you meet your research and writing goals. In circles, you'll meet faculty of all disciplines, colleges, and position types across campus, who offer each other supportive accountability.

Below please find the schedule and Doodle signup link faculty writing circles. As you'll see, next term we're offering 10 circles in 3 formats: in person, virtual, and virtual, caregiver-focused. Read on for details, schedule, and the signup link.

In-person circles
We're excited to offer several options to you for our winter circles. We know that many faculty have been itching to get back to the extra accountability and community found in in-person circles. This coming term, we are very happy to be able to offer some. These circles will take place in CoDaC, in Susan Campbell Hall, and will naturally follow all UO Covid protocols for meeting in person.

It's a moment of transition, in which many faculty and circle leaders want to return to meeting in person, while others need to stick with virtual circles (or prefer to do so) for a number of reasons. We are therefore starting slow, but expect that we'll be increasing in-person options in spring and summer, barring unforeseen obstacles.

Next term we are offering 3 in-person circles. If you strongly prefer in-person circles, but the in-person times on our schedule can't work for you, click on the doodle option indicating that -- see below for more details. (This may be a good time to remind you to please list your full name when you fill out the Doodle poll.) We'll do our best to find a solution that has as many folks in the writing circle mode that works for them as possible.

Details and Schedule
Some details: writing circles will begin the week of January 3, as classes start up. For virtual circles, your circle leader will send you the Zoom or Teams link as we get closer to term.

This winter we are offering ten circles, daily M-F, with circles on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for parents and caregivers. (Parents and caregivers are welcome and present in all of our circles and will find supportive colleagues. Circles specified as caregiver circles offer even more focused support related to the challenges of writing during the pandemic and ongoing childcare crisis while parenting/caregiving.)

How to sign up
In responding to our scheduling Doodle, please write your full name and indicate all times that would work for you -- i.e. times that you would be able to protect and attend consistently across the term. As above, there is a special option if you strongly prefer in-person circles and can't make any of the times. We expect to be able to accommodate all or nearly all writers who may be in this position, but please still click on options that you can attend if necessary. This helps me get everyone into a circle convenient to them. You can also indicate times that might work (click twice on those options). However, please don't click or double-click on a slot that you don't think you'd be able to attend most of the time. Feel free to email me if you have any questions about scheduling.

Click on this doodle to sign up for a winter writing circle; the schedule is below:

I'll assign folks to circles around December 20, giving you time to think about what works best. Circles begin Monday, January 3.

If you know someone who you think might benefit from a faculty writing circle, please feel free to forward this email to them.

Here's the schedule, with circle modes indicated, to help you plan.
