Hello COE faculty,
With the beginning of a new academic year, I wanted to remind you of some of the services the UO Libraries and I can offer you and your students as well as share a few updates and reminders about library resources. I will be working a hybrid schedule this fall, so I will sometimes be on campus and available online (via Zoom/Teams) if you need to reach me.
Here are a few ways I can help:
* Research help appointments: COE students, faculty, and staff can make appointments for research help with me by scheduling a time using my appointment calendar<https://uoregon.libcal.com/appointments/coelibrarian> or sending me an email. I can consult on library resources, literature review strategies, and citation management tools among other things.
* Instruction sessions on research and library resources for your class: I can visit your classroom or we also have classrooms in Knight Library depending on class size. I am available for in-person and online instruction (Zoom). I'd also be happy to consider creating asynchronous content to be shared via Canvas with enough notice (this could be a video, a module, etc.). We have some preexisting tutorials that cover some library basics that you can also use here: https://researchguides.uoregon.edu/tutorials
* Send me your requests for books, streaming video/DVDs, children's/YA books, etc. that you would like the library to purchase, budget permitting.
* I maintain research guides<http://researchguides.uoregon.edu/prf.php?account_id=121286> for some of the programs in the COE. These should automatically appear as a tab on your Canvas course site (that you can toggle on or off as you like).
And I also want to share a few updates and reminders:
* With classes being in-person, we will be fully resuming our course reserves service. If you'd like to have any course materials available for short-term loan, see this page<https://library.uoregon.edu/reserves/requestreserves> for more information. Ebooks related to course materials that we have purchased during the pandemic are still available and I am happy to consider any new titles (with the caveat that many traditional textbook publishers do not sell ebooks to libraries).
* If you have used any streaming videos from Kanopy or Swank in the last few years in your classes, be sure to check whether these are still available. We usually license these films on 1 or 3 year licenses, so we may need to renew the license if it has expired. You can see when the license will expire for a film by finding it in our catalog (here is an example<https://alliance-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/f/3uoa1r/CP71315588640001451>). I can also help check on this if needed.
* We will continuing to offer the Open Access Article Processing Charge (OA-APC) award fund<https://library.uoregon.edu/article-processing-charge-award> this year, so please consider applying and sharing this opportunity with your students as well. We now have additional funding to support OA books as well.
* We will be offering a number of workshops this term that you may want to promote to your students (or attend yourself!). I will share more information, but wanted to share a quick link to our workshop calendar<https://uoregon.libcal.com/calendar/dataservices/?cid=11979&t=g&d=0000-00-00&cal=11979,11173&inc=0> as well as remind you that our Data Services department will be continuing to offer their statistical consulting service<https://library.uoregon.edu/research-data-management/consultations>.
Let me know if you have any questions, suggestions, or other ideas about how the library can support and work with you and your students. I hope you have a good fall term!
Best,
Katherine
