The following message is sent on behalf of Lillian Durán, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Jantina Clifford, Senior Research Associate in Early Intervention Special Education in support of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education’s Special Education National Improvement Committee. Please review the content and share with all students you are currently teaching if you can. We have been tasked with having all students in the COE complete this survey and not only students studying Special Education. Please read the messages below and reach out to Jantina or myself if you have any questions.

Hello! If you are teaching a course this spring, please help us disseminate a short IRB approved Qualtrics survey. The survey was developed by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) Special Education National Interest Coalition, and is intended to help identify the factors and experiences that influence students’ decision to pursue (or not to pursue) a teaching career, license and/or endorsement in special education. We are excited to get this survey out to your students so that the information gathered can inform future strategies for enrollment and retention of teacher candidates on a local and national level. We anticipate that the survey will take approximately 15 minutes for students complete.

Please consider offering students a few extra credit points for completing the survey—this incentive may help to increase the response rates. Students that complete the survey will receive a message at the end of the survey as proof of completion. Students can screen shot this message and upload to your Canvas page as evidence of completion.

If you are willing to distribute this survey to your students, please do so between April 20th-23rd. The survey closes on May 5th.

Here is a message you can give to your students:
