Re: Departure of UOTeach Clinical Director Kara Whipple
Hello Teacher Preparation Colleagues,
This email is to inform you of an important professional transition for our colleague Kara Whipple and an oncoming period of transition for the UOTeach program.
Kara recently announced that she will be soon be leaving our faculty to take a position as PBIS Coordinator for the Eugene 4J school district. Her last day as the Clinical Director for UOTeach will be January 17th, one week from Friday.
Kara has been the UOTeach Elementary Placement Coordinator since 2013. During her years in the Department of Education Studies her role has gradually increased. Kara has become the supervisor for the Elementary University Supervisors, UOTeach instructional faculty, the clinical/field assessment coordinator, and finally became the Clinical Director of the program during her tenure. Her work for UOTeach as well as her service work for the COE has been outstanding, and she will be greatly missed.
During our program transition and job search, a variety of people will be stepping up to take on different aspects of Kara’s work. I wanted you to have basic information on roles and responsibilities during this transition.
Elementary Cohort Students: Kara will shift to adjunct faculty beginning on January 20th. In that role, she will continue to teach the Elementary Cohort for winter and spring term.
Elementary University Supervisors: Julie Heffernan will initially act as the point person for Elementary University Supervisors. There will be a person appointed to that post asap.
District Liaison for Elementary Placements: Julie Heffernan will initially act as the point person for Elementary University Supervisors. There will be a temporary person appointed to that post asap.
Elementary Cohort 2020 Admissions Point Person: GE Melissa Harmon will act in this role.
The Clinical Director position will be posted this month with an initial applicant review date in February. Once the position is posted I will send out an additional announcement.
Kara has been an outstanding teacher educator and colleague. We are grateful that she will be able to remain with us on a smaller scale adjunct faculty to support the current cohort of students. We will be celebrating her next Friday at a lunch in Education room 119 from 11:00-1:00. Please come by as you are able.
Julie
