coe-fac: UO Libraries' Collections Budget Reduction for FY 20

Hello COE faculty,

I wanted to share with you this memo from Adriene Lim, our Dean of Libraries, regarding a reduction to our library collections budget for Fiscal Year 2020: https://library.uoregon.edu/sites/default/files/node4982/budget_reduction_memo_campus_final_version_april_2019.pdf

One thing I would like to point out is that we will be decreasing streaming video costs by moving to a mediated access model for the streaming video database Kanopy<https://uoregon.kanopy.com/> starting after the end of spring quarter. Our current unlimited access model has proven to be very expensive, so we will be prioritizing licensing films that are being used for teaching and research purposes. This means that starting this summer, you will need to request access to new films that you'd like to use. We have already purchased multi-year licenses for films in the Janus/Criterion collection and several other widely-used titles. All titles currently under license will continue to be available. I should have more information on this to share with you in the future once our Collections Services staff has finalized the procedures for faculty to request films needed for instruction.
