Hello! You are receiving this message from me to alert you about a new process for one of our courses in the COE being able to count toward core education requirements. This is just an FYI and if you need more information I would recommned attending one of the information sessions offered below. I plan to attend to help keep our college informed.

Dear Department and Program Heads

I’m following up on my email from the end of last term. As stated then, we are planning for summer review of courses to meet the new core education requirements (see: https://provost.uoregon.edu/changes-core-education-group-and-multicultural-requirements). These new requirements are the result of several years of discussions with faculty, the University Senate and Senate committees, and represent an exciting upgrade for our students. As the intention of these new requirements was to drive change in the curriculum, we do expect that many faculty will have to give some careful thought as to how their courses will meet the new criteria. Submission entails a completed Courseleaf form by end of Spring term which will include a description of how the course meets the new criteria. These will be submitted directly to the UOCC and not go through the college curriculum committee. Full instructions will be sent in a separate email.

I’ve heard back from many but not all of you. So that I can plan for summer resources, I need to know which courses you will be putting through this year, and which, if any, courses will not be submitted at all for review against the new criteria. You are strongly encouraged to put through some, if not all, of your courses this year so that we can even the workload over the next 3 years.

I’d appreciate a response with those details by January 18, 5:00pm.

We are offering two workshops in January to help faculty learn about the new requirements and how to best tailor their courses to meet those requirements (see https://tep.uoregon.edu/workshops-and-events). Please forward this to your faculty and encourage them to attend.

January 24, 2019: Thursday, January 24 1:30-3:00pm Gerlinger Alumni Lounge
January 25, 2019: Friday, January 25 10-11:30am Gerlinger Alumni Lounge

Thanks in advance for your help with this and please contact me directly if I can answer any questions.

Best
Ron
