Dear Colleagues,

Please consider applying or encouraging enthusiastic candidates to apply for the Faculty in Residence (FIR) program, a collaboration between Undergraduate Studies and University Housing.

Currently, UO hosts one faculty member, Dr. Julie Sykes, along with her family, in Global Scholars Hall as a part of the FIR program. Next year, we will have an additional position in the brand new residence hall, located at the corner of 17th and Moss Street, behind the Global Scholars Hall.

The FIR program positions faculty members to create a dynamic living-learning environment in the UO residence halls. The FIR program is a part of the network of academic connections and support for our undergraduate students. This program affirms a culture of inquiry as the heart of the entire UO undergraduate experience, and connects research faculty with students from the beginning of their college career.

The new residence hall will be completed during the summer of 2017, and will feature four Academic Residential Communities (ARCs) and several innovative pedagogical spaces on the first floor designed to explore the themes and curricula of the ARCs. The FIR apartment is a nicely furnished and outfitted 2 bedroom apartment and office in the new hall.  Candidates will be able to see renderings of the apartment during the recruitment process, which will conclude before the end of the 2016-2017 academic year. Anticipated closing date is March 1, 2017, which will be followed by an interview for all qualified candidates.
