Happy New Year Colleagues!
Many of you have been wondering about our progress in the search for the cluster hire positions in obesity prevention and health promotion this year. As you may have noticed, we interviewed a group of candidates this fall and completed those interviews in November. There were multiple goals in hiring these positions. First, we wanted to bring in the best candidates on the job market this year in this topic area. Next, we wanted to recruit faculty whose research was synergistic with our strengths in the College of Education and participating departments/units. Last, we wanted to make sure the group would form a true “cluster”, with research interests that were related to each other in order to promote future collaboration. I believe we have succeeded in all of these goals and we have now completed this search.
We made offers to 4 talented faculty and all 4 have now accepted their positions and will join us in the Fall of 2016. Below is a list of our new colleagues and their research interests.
Nichole Kelly (Ph.D. Counseling Psychology, Virginia Commonwealth University). Her research focuses on cognitive models for energy intake and excess weight gain in adolescent girls.
Nicole Giuliani (Ph.D. Psychology, Stanford University) Her work focuses on understanding neural mechanisms underlying intervention effects on health outcomes in overweight and at-risk individuals.
Tasia Smith (Ph.D. Counseling Psychology, University of Florida) Her research focuses on health disparity, depression, and obesity prevention in adolescence.
Elizabeth Budd (Ph.D. Public Health, Washington University, St. Louis). Her research focuses on physical activity interventions in schools and health outcomes for adolescents.
We look forward to welcoming these new colleagues next Fall! Thanks to all of you who participated in this process.
Beth
