The Center for Assessment, Statistics, and Evaluation (CASE<http://case.uoregon.edu/>) is excited to announce its fall Quantitative Methods Workshop Series on Bayesian Data Analysis. The two 2-day workshops are designed to emphasize the application of Bayesian methods and will address essential theory as a means of strengthening conceptual understanding.
WORKSHOP 1: Introduction to Bayesian Modeling: Why and How
Instructor: Rose Maier
Dates:
Friday, 10/23: 1:00 – 4:00pm
Saturday 10/24: 9:00 – 4:00 (lunch 12:00 – 1:00; on your own)
This workshop provides an introduction to Bayesian modeling with a strong focus on practical applications for social and life science researchers. The 2-day hands-on workshop will address special considerations for running Bayesian models such as convergence diagnostics, interpretation of parameter estimates, and strategies for presentation results. All examples will be done using R and Stan.
Suggested prerequisites: Familiarity with multiple regression will be helpful. No previous experience with R or Stan is required.
WORKSHOP 2: Hierarchical Bayesian Modeling
Instructor: Tyler Matta
Dates:
Friday, 11/6: 1:00 – 4:00pm
Saturday 11/7: 9:00 – 4:00 (lunch 12:00 – 1:00; on your own)
This workshop extends the topics presented in Workshop 1 to introduce hierarchical Bayesian modeling. The 2-day hands-on workshop will address estimating and interpreting hierarchal Bayesian models in the context of clustered data and will provide experience writing programs in R and Stan to fit Bayesian model.
Suggested prerequisites: Familiarity with multilevel modeling will be helpful. Exposure to the ideas covered in Workshop 1.
