Dear COE Faculty:
As Brigid mentioned at the faculty meeting on October 3, this fall and winter our college will engage in the important work of developing the policies and process for NTTF Professional Responsibilities ("workload") and NTTF Promotion and Review.
As I also mentioned in my email on internal governance revisions earlier this month, gathering the 500+ members of the COE faculty in one place for a productive discussion is an impossible task. That being said, I am once again asking for volunteers among the faculty to step forward and make their voices heard as part of two college-wide workgroups similar to the ones that have been convened in the past in order to provide language to this office for review before we send the document back to faculty for ratification. I would like this workgroup to include representatives from TTF and NTTF (including instructional and research). Brigid Flannery will lead these groups with support from Shaun.
Academic Affairs expects these two proposals to be sent from the faculty to myself by December 15 (end of the term) and then I will review and provide feedback by January 9, 2015. The final COE policy will be sent to Academic Affairs after faculty ratification by January 20. To meet these deadlines we must begin and proceed quickly. I propose the following:
1. Any faculty member interested in immediately beginning work on developing the NTTF Professional Responsibilities ("Workload") document should email my assistant Shaun Haskins (haskins at uoregon.edu<mailto:haskins at uoregon.edu>) and indicate their desire to participate in a NTTF Professional Responsibilities college-wide workgroup. In order to ensure that its work is undertaken quickly, requests to join this group will only be accepted until 5pm this Monday, October 20, 2014 and the first meeting of this group will be scheduled once we have a group of volunteers.
2. Any faculty member interested in immediately beginning work on developing the NTTF Promotion and Review document should email my assistant Shaun Haskins (haskins at uoregon.edu<mailto:haskins at uoregon.edu>) and indicate their desire to participate in a NTTF Promotion and Review college-wide workgroup. In order to ensure that its work is undertaken quickly, requests to join this group will only be accepted until 5pm this Monday, October 20, 2014, and the first meeting of this group will be scheduled once we have a group of volunteers.
3. These college-wide workgroups will have their membership announced broadly once they are assembled so that all faculty members can provide input and feedback to the members of the workgroups directly.
The workgroups shall be substantively finished with policy development and submit the results to my office as soon as feasible but no later than December 15. At that time, my office will make a review of the documents and then submit them to the committees for review of the comments by January 9. There will be an opportunity for college-wide review and ratification prior to submission to Academic Affairs no later than January 20, 2015.
For a view of the year's CBA implementation-related activities, you can refer to the timeline on the following website: http://academicaffairs.uoregon.edu/cba-implementation-calendar
I look forward to working with you all this year on these important activities.
Randy
