Dear COE Faculty,
This email provides information concerning how equity adjustments for COE tenured and tenure-track faculty (TTF) were calculated. As you know, the University of Oregon is providing funds for equity adjustments to TTF salaries for fiscal year 15, effective July 1, 2014. To address issues of salary compression and salary inversion, the College of Education has a pool of funds based on 1.5% of the sum of the annual salaries for COE TTF. To manage this pool of funds and to determine where adjustments were made, the COE Leadership Team established the following:
GUIDING PRINCIPLES:
* Equity increases need to address salary compression and inversion
* Equity increases to be done in an objective manner
* Equity to be applied within a rank (assistant, associate, full) and an eligibility pool (represented TTF or non-represented TTF)
* Retired faculty are excluded from consideration for equity increases
ELIGIBILITY and AMOUNT for equity increases were determined using the following steps:
* Sorted all tenure-line faculty by their rank (assistant, associate, full)
* Noted obvious equity gaps within ranks and years within same rank
* Eligible faculty sorted into two pools, represented TTF and non-represented TTF; each pool has its own dollar amount to use for equity increases, determined by calculating 1.5% of all TTF salaries within that pool
* Established a Target Salary for each rank by years in rank
* Since both promotion and review options are available to increase pay after 6 years in rank, the target salary scale was capped at 6 years
* Equity funds were distributed to raise everyone within the same pool (represented or non-represented) to the same percent of target salary
* Given different equity funds available to each pool, the percent of target salary is different within the two pools
* For non-represented TTF, anyone falling below the Target Salary (for their rank/years in rank) by more than 3.6% was eligible for an equity increase
* For represented TTF, anyone falling below the Target Salary (for their rank/years in rank) by more than 3.7% was eligible for an equity increase
Feel free to contact me with your questions.
Best,
Mia
