Dear Colleagues:
The following is information about and request for evaluation topics for the college-wide doctoral seminar, Program Evaluation I & II sequence (EDUC 620 and 621).
Description of Course: The winter/spring Program Evaluation sequence will be offered this year and the winter class is scheduled for Thursdays from 2:00 - 5:50. Please pass this information along to any of your doctoral students who may be interested in this sequence. Students are better prepared for this course if they have had either the prerequisite research methods or a measurement course.
* The Winter course covers (a) models of evaluation, (b) types of evaluation (e.g., needs assessment, implementation, outcome/impact), (c) measurement issues and approaches, (d) standards of evaluation, and (e) the development of an evaluation proposal. The product for the term is the completion of an evaluability assessment for an evaluation project and a proposal for an evaluation negotiated with a client. Please see below if you or someone you know has an existing evaluation need.
* The Spring term, taken as practicum credits, involves completing the planned evaluation activities including the writing of a final evaluation report. Students who take only the Winter term negotiate that they will plan an evaluation for their client but not carry it out.
Request for Evaluation Topics: This e-mail is also an invitation to provide evaluation opportunities or projects appropriate for student completion (e.g., pieces of existing research projects, academic programs, or within community agencies you are affiliated). Evaluation projects should be of the scope that makes it possible for the planning to occur during winter term and the evaluation implemented AND completed at the end of spring term. For example, last year the FHS supervision of supervision model for the FHS student practicum was evaluated. Another evaluation was conducted in two middle schools measuring student's perception of school culture in schools implementing PBS. This evaluation was an expansion from an already funded grant, and the evaluators presented data from this evaluation in a conference poster session.
Please e-mail me directly a short description your ideas and projects prior to the start of winter term. I will present the evaluation opportunities early in the term for students to choose from and allow them to begin working with the client in the design of the evaluation. This activity is a valuable resource for students to provide them with evaluation experience with "real data" and also working directly with clients under guided supervision.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information.
Sincerely,
CHiXapkaid
