Colleagues,

As many of you are aware, at the end of August, I posted an ad for a permanent Chief Procurement Officer to lead the Purchasing and Contracting Services (PCS) unit at the University of Oregon. We changed the title from Director of Purchasing and Contracting Services and re-configured the existing position to ensure a continued focus on campuswide leadership and strategic thinking, and to reflect the role's importance in partnering with other campus leaders to enable the University to advance its mission faster, better, and at reduced cost.

Greg Shabram had been serving in the Interim Director role since February 2018, and by all accounts, he was doing a remarkable job, but I felt that given the recent history regarding the leadership of the unit, which included a number of direct appointments, it was important to make this opportunity available, so we have gone through a thorough and fair process to select the best person for the position.

We hosted the top candidates here in October, and we asked a number of campus partners to help welcome the finalists and participate in the interview process. After spending some time with the candidates, considering the feedback of the search committee, PCS staff, and other key stakeholders on campus, I am pleased to announce that the University's new Chief Procurement Officer is Greg Shabram.

Greg impressed everyone he met with his strategic vision, understanding of the unit and the institution, and passion for the work and the University. Those he met with additionally commented favorably on his leadership abilities, exemplary ethics, and his communication and listening skills. Greg has a Bachelor of Arts in Business-Economics and History from UC Santa Barbara, and earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Oregon. He has worked as an attorney with a firm in Roseburg, and as a Procurement Agent for Boeing in Seattle. He also has over seven years' experience doing contracting at the University, working first as a Contracts Manager, then as the Associate Director of Purchasing and Contracting Services, and most recently as the Interim Director of the unit. He is the recipient of the 2017 Officer of Administration Star Award, and a graduate of the Negotiating Solutions Workshop presented by the Mattford Group.

I am tremendously grateful for Greg's leadership, and I am looking forward to what the future holds for PCS and UO. Please join in me congratulating Greg on his new position.
