Dear Teaching Biologists (and those who taught last spring),

Just want to let all of you now that this mailing list is still active, so feel free to share your questions and tips with everyone using this list. 

One topic that has come up is how to handle students who test positive for Covid and become sick (e.g. with respect to missing midterms and other important requirements for a course). 

The answer is fairly simple: just like you would any other illness. Be as accommodating as you can but if someone has a very serious illness, they may need to withdraw or take an incomplete. I believe there is a petition mechanism for getting a tuition refund even if withdrawing after the standard deadline (in the case of serious illness or family emergencies, etc). We’re looking into that and will send out more information on that later.
