and Matthew Thomas Miller, to be published in 2026. We are soliciting original research articles from any discipline that challenge dominant scholarly narratives in Islamic and Middle Eastern studies through the application of particular theoretical schools
of thought (e.g., feminist, affect theory, ecocriticism, narratology), analytical categories (e.g., race, gender, disability), or perspectives (e.g., history from below, literature of the margins) that have not been typically privileged as objects of study.
We also welcome articles that interrogate the disciplinary formation of Islamic and Middle Eastern studies in the non-Islamic world and how these enduring institutional arrangements have centered certain languages, regions, and modes of analysis as worthy
of study and relegated others to the margins. We are committed to assembling a diverse slate of scholars for this dossier, representing a wide range of topical, geographical, and theoretical/analytical perspectives.<span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">
