<br><br><br><font color="#4c1130">Dear friend,<br><br>It is a pleasure for us to announce the course Arabic Codicology: The Islamic Manuscript Heritage in the El Escorial Collection. This course, supported by al-Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation, will be held in the framework of the Complutense Summer Courses in San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Madrid) from 14th to 18th July 2014.<br>
<br>The course is directed by Dr. Nuria Martínez-de-Castilla-Muñoz (Complutense University of Madrid, Spain) and taught by leading international scholars in the field, <div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:tahoma,sans-serif;display:inline">
am</div>o<div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:tahoma,sans-serif;display:inline">n</div>g whom we are pleased to introduce Professor François Déroche (EPHE, Paris, France) and Professor Adam Gacek (McGill, Montréal, Canada), who will for first time be cooperating in such a programme.<br>
<br>The course aims to provide the student with the knowledge and academic tools required for the study and analysis of manuscripts in Arabic script, focusing on a practical approach. We have the privilege of attending the step-by-step five hands-on sessions in the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial which houses the most important collection of manuscripts in Arabic script in Spain and is one of the most relevant in Europe.<br>
<br>The course has been designed for scholars and professional working in the field of manuscript studies and especially those in Arabic script: Arabists, Philologists, Historians, Art Historians, Librarians, Archivists, Restorers or Collectors. A detailed programme is attached to this document.<br>

In an attached document, you can find information about the way in which it can be done. The deadline for registration is 30th May. <br>
<br>FEES <br><br>a) Guest students (covering only the course): 215€. Students, retired and unemployed people: 168€.<br><br>b) Resident students fees (including full-board accommodation in single rooms and registration in the course) for five days: 522€. Discount fees are available for students, unemployed or retired people providing documentation supporting their status: 475 €.<br>
<br>GRANTS<br><br>Some grants will be available for full-board accommodation in a shared double room. In order to apply for such a grant, please upload your CV in the registration form. <br><br>The maximum number of students is 16. <br>
