Dear colleagues and friends,
I hope this message finds you well.
I’m happy to announce the first article, by the excellent linguist Kees
Versteegh, in the special issue I’m co-editing with my dear colleague Ross
Brann (Cornell University), published after three external brilliant
reviews!
For the first time, this article critically examines the term “Islamicate”,
coined by Marshall Hodgson in his classic multi-volume work on the history
of the Islamic world. Kees Versteegh explores the shortcomings of this term
and its lack of clear definition.
The article is open access, so enjoy reading it, and feel free to share it
with your students and colleagues or reach out to me or Kees if you’d like
to discuss it further.

All the very best wishes for success and health
