*Jewish–Islamic Resonances Lecture Series*

We warmly invite you to our next session:

*Speaker:* Yitzhak Y. Melamed (Charlotte Bloomberg Chair in Philosophy,
Johns Hopkins University)

*Title:* *The Hasidim as Latter-Day Sufis*

*Abstract:*
This lecture traces the Ḥasidic reception of the concluding chapters of
Maimonides’ *Guide of the Perplexed*. It shows how Ḥasidic masters
expressed particular enthusiasm for these Sufi-infused chapters and
developed distinctive practices of prayer inspired by their teaching on
*devekut* (cleaving to God). The lecture also examines recent Ḥasidic
scholarship that regards Islamic Sufis as preserving the original
devotional practices of the biblical prophets.

*Date and time:* 10 December 2025, 12:00 (CET)

*Location:* Sala Julián Rivera (1C), CCHS–CSIC, Madrid
